Scubi Jew  & Ally's Way

If you thought Hillel was boring and "doesn't float your boat," then come to
Eckerd College, because

Our Hillel has a boat!

Yes, We're the only Hillel in the world that actually has a boat. What else would you expect from a school rated as one of America's top 5 waterfront campuses?

"Ally's Way" is the official service vessel of Scubi Jew,  Hillel's Scuba Club.  Students regularly go out on "Ally's Way" to remove debris from the the St. Petersburg Downtown reef in Tampa Bay.  We also use her for the occasional sunset cruise on the Bay.  She's named in memory of Ally Willen (Eckerd Class of 2016)

Ally's Way is a 34 ft, 1985 SeaRay 340.  In 2024, we completed the process of converting her from gas to electric/solar power.  She is one of the first old boats in the U.S. to undergo such a conversion.  We're very proud, not only of the work our students do aboard Ally's Way, but what she represents.  She serves as a reminder of the past, by reminding us of the legacy of joy, love and service, which was Ally Willen, and she represent the future of clean, sustainable and silent service.

Welcome Aboard!

Scubi Jew

Scubi Jew is a signature program of the Hillel at Eckerd College.  If you are a certified scuba diver, if you want to get certified or if you just love the Ocean, then you'll find something for you at Scubi Jew.

Aboard Ally's Way, our Dive Against Debris program sees students regularly remove debris from the St. Petersburg Downtown Reef.

Scubi Jew students also travel to the Florida Keys several times during the year to plant coral with iCare, remove debris from mangroves and beaches and learn "Water Torah."  There are also local beach cleanups, and we participate in Repair the Sea's global Reverse Tashlich which began at Eckerd College.
